Cancel Berwick Bank Offshore Windfarm

Berwick Bank threatens to be one of the deadliest windfarms for birds anywhere in the world.

Offshore wind could play a big role in tackling the climate crisis and building a clean, green industry in Scotland. But it must be developed in harmony with nature. Berwick Bank offshore windfarm is set to be located near the internationally important East Lothian, Berwickshire and Fife coasts, in an area that is vital for globally important colonies of seabirds. As a result, it’s projected that this development will kill 261 Gannets, 2,808 Guillemots, 815 Kittiwakes, 66 Puffins, and 154 Razorbills in the first year alone, and tens of thousands more over its lifetime.* In spite of this, in August the Scottish Government consented Berwick Bank in full. However, they have said that the project cannot progress without a plan to compensate for its impact. We do not consider this to be realistic or acceptable.

For more information about Berwick Bank and the impact it could have, see here.

Oppositions to Berwick Bank are only growing. Our last petition “Cancel Berwick Bank” gathered 12,850 signatories. Community groups have also rallied our call, organising local actions along the East Lothian coast.

With a new Scottish Parliament settling in Holyrood, we have an important opportunity to speak out for seabirds and urge MSPs to adopt a clear position in opposition to this devastating plan.
