Isle of May Beach

The Scottish Seabird Centre offers the chance to see wildlife in its natural habitat. This is live activity that visitors to the Discovery Centre are controlling. The images above refresh every 5 seconds and are transmitted live from our solar powered cameras.
The Isle of May, a Scottish Natural Heritage National Nature Reserve, is often referred to as the Jewel of the Forth. The island is a European Special Area of Conservation for its seals and rocky reefs, but is most famous for its seabirds and it is a European Special Protection Area. On the Isle of May you can see puffins, shags, terns, guillemots, razorbills, eider ducks, gulls, kittiwakes and fulmars.
There are two live interactive cameras positioned at Pilgrim's Haven, overlooking the beach and the cliffs. In spring and summer the cameras observe the wonderful seabird cities on the rocky cliffs and the thriving colony of puffins on the grassy slopes, while in the winter months you can see seal pups being born. This is the largest grey seal colony on the east coast of Britain.

The Isle of May NNR visitor centre was built in 2014 as an easily accessible building that gives information on how to get the best out of a visit to this stunning island. It is an environmentally-friendly design that fits in well to the landscape and its green roof gives a splash of colour with wildflowers. During the tern breeding season it gives the visitors a chance to get an incredibly close view of these lively little birds that nest all around and even on the roof. At anytime it is just a great place to just sit and take in the stunning view across the tern and gull colonies and the North Sea beyond.
If you like what you see, why not visit the Discovery Centre and control the cameras for yourself. You can extend your Seabird experience with a seasonal boat trip. We also run landing trips to the Isle of May.
