Experience the winter coastline through drawing in this workshop led by landscape and wildlife artist Chris Wallbank. This three hour session will take place in our Winter Wonders space before moving outdoors to find inspiration along the harbour and shoreline overlooking the Firth of Forth, which is at its most dramatic during these winter months.
Chris will lead participants in a series of drawing exercises designed to stimulate powers of observation and help us tune into our natural surroundings, before embarking on a creative exploration of the coastline. Participants will make their own artist book in which to draw and, by the end of the session, transform into their own narrative of the coastal environment; winter elements, wildlife, geology, industry, islands, drama. Basic materials and paper will be provided; in addition, participants are encouraged to bring any drawing materials they like using as there will be an emphasis on working in mixed media for those who want. Participants are advised to wear warm winter clothing for drawing outdoors and provision will be made for working in areas that offer shelter.
‘Rhythms of the Winter Coastline’ is suitable for adults aged 16 and over, including beginner to experienced artists as well as nature lovers interested in drawing as a means to engage with the environment and see nature in a new way.
