Volunteer with us
We are incredibly grateful to our amazing team of volunteers who play a key role in offering a warm and informed welcome to our visitor experience and who support the delivery of our education, conservation, and community based activities.
Our brilliant volunteers work tirelessly to support, fund, and deliver the essential work of our Charity. Recognised for their exceptional and varied work by the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, they are a key part of everything that we achieve today.
As a Scottish Seabird Centre volunteer you can contribute your time and expertise in a myriad of different ways. This includes:
- Visitor experience - welcoming customers to the Centre and helping to showcase Scotland's amazing marine environment.
- Conservation - you can get involved in our practical conservation activities, including SOS Puffin, Restoration Forth, tackling coastal pollution, and submitting important data via citizen science initiatives.
- Events - supporting our team with set up, welcome and support to participants in our programme of events from 'Meet the Scientist' to 'Seabird Socials'.
- Education / Outreach - support our learning team as they develop educatonal resources and workshops, lead engagement sessions outdoors and inspire people to get involved.
- Business support - behind the scenes we need help with different activities which range from membership engagement, fundraising support and maintenance through to developing our strategic approach and marketing and communications.
We warmly welcome new volunteers from all backgrounds to our team. Whether you just have an occasional hour or wish to contribute on a more regular basis, we will do our best to match your interests and time with the volunteering opportunities which are available.
You can find out more about the range of activities our volunteers are involved with by reading our Volunteer Handbook, or contacting us directly.
QUEEN'S AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE
Our long serving volunteers were awarded with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for their exceptional work over the first 20 years of our Charity's life!
Former chair of the volunteer group, Mrs Sandy Forrest said:
“This is just an amazing award, and totally unexpected. The volunteers really enjoy helping at the Scottish Seabird Centre as we have such a varied experience, from assisting with school groups; to meeting visitors from the local area and from other countries of the world; and getting involved with the conservation and environmental activities so valuable to our community. We particularly appreciate working with a young, committed staff who make it possible for us to support them in their endeavours.”
