Dr Bryan Nelson Memorial Lecture
19 March 2019, 7:30pm
In collaboration with the RSPB, we are delighted to announce that Professor Colin Moffat will deliver our annual Bryan Nelson Memorial Lecture, entitled 'The need for balance'.
Our seas and oceans are fundamental to life on land, yet for many years we exploited them, not appreciating that the resources were limited. Today we have some understanding of how our seas function, but our knowledge remains partial. At the same time, our demands on the seas and oceans continue to grow and our impact has pushed some factors beyond natural fluctuations. The more we learn, the more we realise that there is a need to nurture our marine environment, conserve the plants and animals that live in, on and above our seas and limit human impact. Balancing human pressures with the need to maintain fully functioning seas is a significant challenge, but the appropriate management of human activities does help in the conservation of species, which will ultimately be better for all life on earth, including us!
Venue: Lindsay Stewart Lecture Theatre, Napier University, Craiglockhart Campus, Colinton Road, Edinburgh, EH14 1DJ
