Educating little ones

Using puppets, musical instruments, actions and songs, your pupils can’t fail to be inspired by our Curriculum for Excellence linked, original and fully interactive storytelling sessions. Riddles, rhymes and real life specimens bring learning to life in our award-winning Education and Discovery Centre.

Puffin tales: the turbulent tale of Percy the puffin

Our story begins in the middle of the sea when Percy hears a voice whisper ‘come back to me!’ Discover the story of a puffin lifecycle in this fully rhyming, magical tale. Look out for the tree mallow and be prepared for a splish and a splash and a splish-splish splash! Children can then relive the experience of Percy through freeplay games, art and drama activities.

Recommended: Watch ‘Clowns of the air’ in the Wildlife Theatre and take a visit to the puffin burrow play area. Visit in spring or summer to see puffins live on camera in the Discovery Centre.

Seal stories: Sammy the seal and his homecoming adventure

Learn all about Sammy the Seal as he learns ‘there’s no place like home’ from a hungry hermit crab, a spooky spider and a grandiose gannet. Be prepared to sing! Children can then relive the experience of Sammy through freeplay games, art and drama activities.

Recommended: Watch ‘Seabirds, seals and some red deer’ in the Wildlife Theatre. Visit in autumn and winter and see newborn, white fluffy seal pups live on our Discovery Centre cameras and take part in our seal watch survey.
