Seabird Centre's Jenny is top of the class at Scottish Education Awards
Jenny McAllister, Education Officer at the Scottish Seabird Centre has received the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award at the Scottish Education Awards 2013. Supported by the Scottish Government and the Scottish Daily Record, the awards aim to celebrate excellence in the education sector.
The judges were impressed by the way in which Jenny has combined her ecology studies with teacher training to develop an education programme which successfully inspires young people of all ages to learn about wildlife, sustainability and the environment through a series of imaginative and interactive workshops at the Centre. This has included the creation of the weekly after school Wildlife Club, and the Centre's ever popular characters Tammie the Puffin and Professor Egghead, who will be starring in a series of summer science fun over the school holiday period.
Jenny has been invited to a special tea for winners at the House of Commons in July and will also be a contender in the Teaching Awards UK, the winners of which will be announced in October.
